Michael climbed the creaky stairs to the attic. There, sitting in the golden light, was a heavy trunk. It was locked tight with a silver latch. Grandpa smiled and placed a small, mysterious note on the lid. This was the start of a new mystery.

The note said: Look where the light meets the floor, under the chair that holds the score. Michael looked at Grandpa, who pointed toward the old piano bench. He knew exactly where to search. He hurried across the creaky wooden floor.

Under the bench, Michael found a small wooden box. It had a riddle carved into the top. Michael opened his notebook and wrote the words down carefully. Puzzles were always better when solved one step at a time.
