체스 대회 한창때, 체크메이트 한 수 앞에서 검은 퀸이 감쪽같이 사라져요. 시우은(는) 기록지에 숨은 비밀 지도를 읽어 퀸의 마지막 네 수를 되짚고, 시계가 멈추기 전에 수수께끼를 풀어야 해요.
The hall smelled of chalk dust and warm wood, clocks ticking like tiny hearts all around. 시우 was one move from checkmate, his best game ever. Then he looked down. The black queen's square sat completely empty. "She's gone," he breathed. "Right when I needed her captured!"
"She's really gone!" Nico gasped, nearly knocking over his water cup. 시우 held up a hand. "Wait. Panic won't find her. The notation never lies." He lifted the folded score sheet where every move had been written in tidy letters and numbers. "Read the code backward, and we walk her last steps."
Mrs. Alba glided over, her lavender cardigan swishing. "A vanished queen, is it?" she said, eyes twinkling behind her spectacles. "Every mystery leaves a trail, young detective. Yours is written in letters like d and numbers like 5. Read carefully, and the board will tell you its secrets."
