Mei's Brand-New Pet

Ages 3–7

When Mei's new puppy arrives too scared to come out, she learns the gentle art of patience — water, hands, and quiet — until Biscuit trusts her enough to stay.

Children learn that caring for a pet means offering water, gentle hands, quiet, and patience — and trust is a gift you earn, not take.

A brand-new carrier arrived — and inside was a puppy! Trembly with joy and worry too, Biscuit blinked in the light. "Water. Gentle hands. Quiet. Wait," whispered Mei. "That's our plan, Biscuit."

Biscuit bolted and hid beneath the couch, two round eyes shining in the shadow. "Everything is new for you," said Mei softly. "Water. Gentle hands. Quiet. Wait."

"What does a scared puppy need first?" Mei wondered aloud. Water, she thought — a cool, clean bowl, quiet and blue, set gently on the floor.
