Ages 4–8

When Noah must go to the hospital for a small operation, he brings Bo the teddy bear along, and a kind nurse shows him that knowing what happens next can turn worry into a grand, gentle adventure.

Noah packed a little bag: pajamas, socks, and Bo the bear. "We're going to the hospital tonight," said the parent. His tummy did a wiggly flip. Bo squeezed tight and said nothing, but he felt braver already.

Through the big glass doors, the hospital hummed and glowed. Nurses walked by in soft-soled shoes. "Welcome, Noah!" said Nurse Willa, kneeling down. "You and Bo are going to have quite a night."

"First, we listen to your heart," said Nurse Willa, "and to Bo's too!" She pressed a cool little disc to his chest, then to Bo's fuzzy one. Thump-thump, thump-thump. "Strong hearts, both of you."
