Aisha's Eid Morning

Ages 3โ€“8

When the crescent moon appears at last, Aisha wakes before the sun in bright new clothes, and must decide whether to keep a plate of sweets all to herself or share the joy of Eid with everyone she loves.

Children feel the warmth of gratitude and generosity when Eid morning is shared with family, neighbors, and those in need.

Before the sun peeked over the rooftops, Aisha popped awake like a spring! Today was Eid โ€” the happiest morning of the year. "Eid Mubarak!" she whispered to the quiet, waiting house.

On went the golden-embroidered emerald tunic, soft trousers, and slippers stitched with silver thread. Aisha twirled once, then twice! "Eid Mubarak!" she sang, and giggled at the sparkly sound of it.

In the kitchen, a grown-up's hand slid a plate of powdery sweets across the table. Aisha piled them onto the brass flower-painted plate โ€” a great, heaping mountain. "All mine," she thought, hugging it close.
