Finn's Rain Cloud

Ages 3–5

When Finn wakes up grumpy with a real little raincloud stuck over his head, he learns to stop fighting the gray feeling and instead invite it to sit — and watch it soften into a rainbow.

Children learn that naming and welcoming a grumpy or jealous feeling — instead of pushing it away — helps that feeling pass, just like a storm.

Finn woke up sour, his face in a frown. And right over his messy hair — a little cloud hung down! Gray and small and grumbling, it sniffled soft and low. "Where did you come from, little cloud?" he wanted to know.

"Go away!" he huffed, and swatted with his hand. But the cloud just wobbled — it liked right where it stood! It rained one tiny raindrop, plip, onto his nose. "Rude little cloud," Finn said, wiggling his toes.

Down the hall he stomped, past the kitchen nook, but the cloud stomped too — he just could not shake the look! It sat on his shoulder like a tiny gray hat. "Fine," huffed Finn. "I guess that's that."
