Hiro's Giant Listening Ears

Ages 3–5

When a friend's crayon snaps and tears fall, Hiro isn't sure what to do — until he discovers that the kindest thing is to sit close, listen with giant imaginary ears, and later share a gentle kindness bandage of words.

Children learn that comforting a friend often means quiet, patient listening and small acts of kindness rather than rushing to fix or dismiss their feelings.

Hiro loved big feelings and small quiet moments. His favorite thing? Listening. Not with tiny ears — with GIANT listening ears, the imaginary kind that could hear a whole heart.

At the art table, Milo drew a fiery sun with his favorite red crayon. Snap! The crayon broke in two. Milo's chin wobbled, and big tears rolled down his cheeks.

Hiro didn't know what to say. His tummy felt fluttery and stuck. Then he remembered his giant listening ears — and got a brand-new idea. He slid off his chair.
