Mateo and the Strong, Safe Voice
Ages 3–5
When the big kids' tumbling game gets too rough on a golden autumn afternoon, Mateo plants both feet firm in the grass and finds the strong, polite words to say no.
Children learn that saying "no, thank you" to unsafe play is brave and kind, and it can make the game better for everyone.

Golden leaves went twirling down on Mateo's favorite park day. He skipped along the gravel path, red pebble tucked snug in his pocket, humming a crunchy, crackly tune just for himself.
Near the tumbling mats, Milo and two big kids were building a wobbly leaf-pile mountain. "Come climb and crash with us!" Milo called, waving both arms high and grinning wide.
The pile leaned and swayed like a giant leafy tower about to topple. Big kids crashed through it, elbows flying, leaves flying everywhere. Mateo watched, feet planted, staying steady.
