Eli's Big, Kind Heart

Ages 3–5

When his best friend's elbow spills berry juice all over his best drawing, Eli learns to breathe like a balloon and choose forgiveness over shouting.

Children learn to pause, breathe, and tell accidents from meanness, choosing forgiveness and kindness even when they feel upset.

Eli loved to paint! Suns and dogs and wobbly, wiggly worms danced under his busy brush. Today's picture was the best one yet — a giant sunflower, drying by the window. "Someday," he whispered, "I'll breathe like a balloon and everything will be okay."

Milo, in his green striped sweater, came bouncing in, cup of berry juice sloshing in his hand. "Look what I made with clay!" he grinned, waving his lumpy dinosaur high — right past the wobbly red cup.

CRASH! Milo's elbow caught the cup. Red juice leaped through the air and landed — splat — right on the middle of Eli's sunflower. The whole room froze.
