Diego and the Honest Truth

Ages 3–5

When a bouncing ball cracks Mama's favorite vase, Diego must choose between an easy blame and a brave, small truth.

Children learn that telling the truth, even when it's scary, feels braver and better than hiding behind a lie.

Diego, in his striped sweater and blue overalls, loved to bounce his little orange ball, thump-thump-thump, all around the cozy clay house. Biscuit trotted behind, ears flopping with every happy hop.

Thump-thump-CRASH! The ball bounced too high and bumped the shelf. Down fell the blue-and-white vase, cracking on the wooden floor. Truth is small. Truth is brave. Truth is best — Diego would learn that soon.

Diego looked at the broken pieces, then at Biscuit's big trusting eyes. A sneaky little thought tried to blame the dog, but his tummy felt wobbly, and he pushed the sneaky thought away.
