Emma and the Castle Built With No Walls

Ages 3–5

When Emma refuses to wait for a slow stone tower, she grabs a ruler, bricks, and mortar to build a brand-new kind of castle — one with no walls at all, only open archways and blooming gardens for everyone.

Children learn that patience, planning, and hands-on effort let them create something uniquely their own — and that an open, welcoming heart can be its own kind of strength.

Emma watched the stone tower rise, brick by slow brick, for a hundred waiting days. "I want a castle NOW," she said, "and I want to build it herself, snip-snap-quick!" So she grabbed her rainbow ruler and marched outside.

"A castle needs no waiting walls," said Emma, tapping her ruler on the ground with a bright tap-tap-tap. "Build it up, open and free! Mine will have gardens instead of gates, and doors that are always, always open."

"Ready, Pip?" Emma called, and the little red cart gave a happy squeak. Squeak-squeak-rumble, wobble-bump-roll, they zoomed to the brick pile, wheels bouncing merrily over the garden path!
