Ruby and the Gentle Pony

Ages 3–5

On a golden farm morning, Ruby meets a gentle Shetland pony and learns, brush stroke by brush stroke, how to be brave, balanced, and be a true partner in the saddle.

A gentle story about building confidence and trust step by step, showing children that bravery grows slowly, like balance, with patience and kindness toward a new animal friend.

Ruby tiptoed to the paddock gate, helmet snug and high, heart thump-thumping. Behind the fence stood a round, fuzzy shape with a mane like yarn. "That's Clover," said a warm voice. "Soft and slow, that's how we go."

Ruby reached out a hand, then pulled it back, then reached again. Clover's nose was velvet-soft and warm as toast. She huffed a big, ticklish breath. "Hello, hello, Clover-pony!"

"Brushing first," said Old Mo, "so Clover feels loved." Ruby took the blue-handled brush and swept it down Clover's fuzzy caramel side, long and slow, just like smoothing a blanket.
