Lin's Tide Pool Promise

Ages 3–5

At low tide, Lin tiptoes into a world of tiny sea creatures, learning that the very best way to love them is to look closely and leave every shell exactly where it belongs.

Children learn gentle, hands-off observation of wildlife and early marine-conservation values: look closely, stay quiet, and leave nature's homes undisturbed.

Low tide! Low tide! The sea slips away, leaving little pools of treasure on the sand. Lin grabs the wooden-framed magnifying glass and tiptoes toward the rocks. "Look, don't touch," she whispers. "Look, don't touch."

In the very first pool, something moves! A tiny shell wobbles, then two orange claws peek out. "Hello," says Lin softly, leaning close but not too close. "I see you, little one."

Out pops Pip the hermit crab, shy and small! She scuttles sideways, shell wobbling like a tiny wagon. Lin stays very still, hands folded, watching Pip's whole world with wide, happy eyes.
