Emma's Cloud Sculptor of Sunset Hill

Ages 3–5

On a golden evening picnic, Emma isn't sure she can find any real pictures in the clouds — until she discovers that up on Sunset Hill, every shape she imagines is real.

Slowing down to notice and imagine turns an ordinary evening into a shared adventure, and teaches a child that there is no wrong way to dream.

Nana Rosa spreads the checkered blanket under the big oak tree on Sunset Hill. Emma sits down and looks up at the billowing sky. "What if I can't find any pictures?" she asks, hugging her cloud-pointer close.

"There's no wrong way to look at clouds," says Nana Rosa, settling beside her. Emma tilts her head. A round, fluffy cloud drifts slow and shimmery overhead. "Just tell me the first thing you see."

Emma squints hard. Then her whole face lights up. "A turtle!" she points her stick high. "See its round, puffy shell?" Pip barks, wagging, as if she spots it too.
