Eli and the Muddy Cleats Alibi

Ages 6–8

When Eli is blamed for tracking mysterious footprints across the school foyer, he teams up with a clue-loving classmate to compare sand, mud, and splash patterns, clear his name, and prove the truth.

Children learn that comparing real evidence carefully, rather than assuming or guessing, is the fair way to find the truth.

"Eli," said Mr. Finch, kneeling by a trail of pale, sandy footprints smeared across the gleaming foyer floor, "can you explain this?" Every head turned. Eli's cheeks went hot. "That wasn't me," he said carefully, "but I can prove it."

"Everyone says it was you because your shoes are always muddy," said Mira, jogging up with her notebook. "But muddy isn't the same as sandy." Eli grinned. "Evidence first, guessing never. Let's follow the trail before the cleaner mops it away!"

The trail led to the calligraphy classroom, where an ink bottle lay tipped on its side. Dark teardrop splashes spattered the floor. "Whoa," breathed Eli, kneeling to look closer. "What happened here?"
