Diego and the Sunken Toy Chest

Ages 6–8

When his favorite toy chest sinks to the bottom of the backyard pond, Diego must use jugs, math, and a magnifying glass full of curiosity to figure out how to bring it back up.

Children see that careful counting and testing — not guessing — solves real problems, and that safety and teamwork make discovery even sweeter.

Diego loved puzzles more than anything — especially the heavy red toy chest that held every gadget he owned. Every morning he dragged it onto the dock to sort his treasures, magnifying glass swinging from his neck. "Careful, that chest weighs a ton," laughed Grandpa Theo from the porch.

Then — CREAK! One dock board wobbled. The chest tipped, slid, and with a giant SPLOOSH it vanished into the deep green pond! Diego froze at the rail. "My chest!" he cried. Biscuit barked wildly at the ripples spreading across the water.

Grandpa Theo hurried down, tall rubber boots squelching in the mud. "Don't you worry," he said, peering into the murky water. "That chest's not lost — it's just resting. But it's too deep and heavy for hands. We'll need a clever plan to lift it."
