Lin and the Clockmaker's Workshop Escape

Ages 6–8

Lin loves puzzles more than anything, so when Kids' Escape Night traps her in an antique clockmaker's workshop, she and a clockwork owl named Tock must measure, balance, and time four tricky clock-puzzles before the big brass door will finally chime open.

Kids see that the same careful measuring and patient counting Lin loves for fun is exactly what solves the trickiest real puzzle, showing that a calm mind and a good friend can beat any countdown.

Lin loved puzzles more than anything in the world — the trickier, the better. "Welcome to Kids' Escape Night!" called Mr. Abernathy, his tweed sleeve waving from the doorway. "Solve my workshop's puzzles before the big clock strikes six, and the brass door opens wide!" A small brass owl blinked its gear-eyes awake on a shelf. "I'm Tock. Tick-tock, let's knock this puzzle!"

The workshop was crammed with clocks of every size, ticking in a jumble that made Lin's ears itch. In the center stood a huge brass door, sealed tight. Four small clock faces glowed dim around the walls. "They must all chime together," said Tock, "or the door stays shut tight as a drum!"

"First, the balance room," chimed Tock, pointing a wing toward a side table. A brass scale sat waiting, with a shiny 1-kilogram weight on one side and an empty glass beaker on the other. "Pour water till it balances," said Tock. "Remember: one litre of water weighs exactly one kilogram!"
