Diego and the Promise at Maple Court
Ages 6–8
When some kids at the playground mock a classmate's speech difference, Diego steps up shoulder-to-shoulder with him, waits patiently for him to finish, and turns a moment of teasing into a lesson in loyalty.
Children learn that true strength means standing beside someone being teased, waiting patiently, and speaking up with kindness.

Every day after school, Diego and Micah raced to Maple Court. "Good friends wait," Diego's grandma always said, and he believed it. He loved the rope swing, the thud of the basketball, and best of all, Micah's stories about dinosaurs — even if his words liked to take their time coming out.
"Guess what I found," Micah said, catching his breath. "A f-f-fossil. Well, I think it's a fossil. It's got this w-weird shape..." He kept going, describing every bump and ridge, while Diego rolled the silver whistle between his fingers and listened with both ears wide open.
Across the court, two kids from school, Dev and Tomas, wandered over with the worn basketball. Tomas hesitated, glancing sideways, but Dev grinned wide. "Say it right, why don't you," he called out, loud enough for the whole court to hear. Micah's mouth snapped shut.
