Diego and the Champion of the Unseen
Ages 6–8
On the day of the big school mile run, Diego crosses the finish line in fourth place, then turns around and runs straight back onto the track to help the very last runner finish strong.
True victory means lifting others up, not just crossing the line first.

The whole school buzzed like a jar of bees. Today was the Mile Run. Diego tied his navy headband tight and lined up at the white starting chalk line, heart thumping like a drum, ready to fly.
"On your marks!" called Coach Reyes. "Get set... GO!" Sneakers thundered on the track. Diego pushed off hard, arms pumping, wind cool on his face. Behind him, he heard Milo's feet slapping the ground, already breathing hard.
Lap after lap, Diego's legs burned like fire. "Left foot, right foot," he whispered to himself, matching the words to his steps. Glancing back, he spotted Milo already falling behind — but the finish line called, and he kept going.
