Ben and the Calm Eye of the Storm
Ages 6–8
When a wild storm plunges the house into darkness, 7-year-old Ben grabs a trusty flashlight-lantern and becomes the calm, glowing eye at the center of the storm for two frightened pets while his parents work below.
A child can be a steady, comforting leader for the family and pets during a scary moment, finding a calm center and turning fear into warmth and connection.

Thunder cracked like a giant's clap, and every light in the house blinked out at once. Rain hammered the windows in a wild drumbeat. "Whoa," whispered Ben, heart thumping, eyes wide. Somewhere in the dark, Biscuit let out a worried whine.
From the basement stairs, his parents' voices called up, calm but busy. "We're securing things down here — can you help keep everyone cozy up there?" "On it!" Ben shouted back, already feeling braver with a job to do.
First things first: light! Ben dashed to the kitchen drawer and pulled out his favorite flashlight-lantern. Click! A warm golden beam burst out, chasing the shadows away. "Hello, Sunbeam," Ben grinned.
