Lily and the Logic-Gate Cryptographer
Ages 6–8
When Lily's science club needs a way to send messages nobody else can crack, she builds a laser-light circuit of AND, OR, and NOT gates that turns colored beams into a secret code only friends can solve.
Children see how simple true/false logic gates combine to create real encryption, and feel how a shared secret code can make friendship feel a little closer.

Lily loved secrets, but there was one problem: she didn't yet know how to keep one safe from prying eyes. 'Grown-ups can't crack our club code,' she told Ziggy, 'if I can just figure out how.' Ziggy's paper eyes blinked. 'Beep! Big if!'
'First, a NOT gate,' Lily said, holding up a small black paper flap, though she wasn't quite sure she'd get it right. She slid the flap over a red beam — the light vanished. She pulled it back — light again! 'Oh! It flips things!' Ziggy beeped happily. 'Opposite day, but for light!'
Nomi burst in. 'Ooh, a spy machine?' she asked, peering over Lily's shoulder. She nodded. 'An AND gate next — it only lets light through if BOTH beams say yes. I think.' Nomi grinned. 'Race you to prove it!'
