Leo knelt by the lake. Between two flat stones, something glittered. He reached down and pulled out a heavy, round object. It was a brass compass, but the needle was stuck, spinning in slow, funny circles. "Hello there," Leo whispered. "What kind of secret are you keeping?"

Bramble the squirrel scampered down a pine tree and chattered at the compass. The needle suddenly stopped, pointing straight at a large, grey boulder marked with a painted white star. Leo checked his journal. This was a trail marker! "You want me to follow the star, don't you?" he asked.

At the boulder, Leo found a small wooden box tucked into a crevice. It was locked with a dial that had letters instead of numbers. A riddle was scratched into the wood: 'I grow in the sun but have no roots. I dance on the water when the light shoots.' Leo tapped his chin. What could it be?
