The tall clock in the hallway had stopped. It did not tick, and it did not tock. Lucas stared at the empty keyhole. Buster barked once at the clock. Something was missing, and he was just the detective to find it.

Suddenly, a faint whistle drifted from the library. Lucas checked his notebook. Was the clock trying to tell him something? He walked toward the sound, his boots clicking softly on the polished floor.

On the library table sat a note. It was written in curly, blue ink. It said: Look where the stories sleep, near the shelf that is twice as tall as you. Lucas knew exactly where to go.
