The sun poked through the workshop window, waking Theodore with a golden tickle. Today was the Neighborhood Giving Day. Theodore looked at Grandpa and smiled. He had a secret plan to make the best gift ever, all by himself.

First, Theodore tried to weave a basket from willow twigs. He pulled and tucked, but the twigs poked and snapped. He sighed as the shape turned into a tangle. Grandpa reached over with gentle, steady hands to hold the base.

That did not look like a gift, Theodore whispered. He pushed the twigs aside. Grandpa patted his shoulder and handed him a smooth river stone. He smiled, but his heart felt a little heavy.
