"Leon, you're chosen for the solo!" said Ms. Delgado, tapping the list on the music-room door. Leon's heart did a somersault. A solo — just him, alone on that big stage. Wonderful. Terrifying. Both at once.

That night, Leon sat up in bed, moonlight silvering the curtains. "What if my voice shakes? What if I forget the words?" He whispered to the quiet room, holding the pitch-pipe cord tight in one hand.

Backstage the next day, Leon's throat felt bone-dry. Music stands crowded the hallway. Wendell puffed out his cheeks and did a wobbly drumroll on his own knees. "See?" Wendell said. "Even I get the shakes — I just turn mine into music." Leon almost, almost smiled.
