Laura e o Lago Calmo

Laura quer ver bem o próprio rosto sorridente e o barquinho de brinquedo no lago do jardim, mas só consegue uma bagunça tremida ao espirrar água, até descobrir que ficar quietinha transforma a água num espelho liso e perfeito.

Evening came soft and gold to the garden. Laura ran straight for the pond, boots thumping, blue pebble necklace bouncing. "I want to see my face in the water!" she called, waving at the little boat bobbing near the lily pads.

Laura knelt at the pond's edge and dipped both fingertips in, swishing fast. Splash! Splash! Little waves jumped up and slapped over the stone rim.

The water turned choppy and gray, like a tiny stormy sea. Laura looked for her own face and the little boat, but only muddy swirls looked back.
