"Mission clock is running, Максим!" chimed Mira, wings clicking open. On the glass dome, a tiny simulated ship blinked red, stranded past the Moon. "Fuel reads zero," said Captain Reyes through the speaker. "Zero fuel, zero chances -- unless someone finds another way home."

He slid into the rocket-nose beanbag seat and gripped the brass orrery compass at his chest. "No fuel means no engines," he whispered, flipping it open. Tiny planets spun inside. "But gravity never runs out." Mira's rings blinked twice. "Correct! The Moon's pull could throw them home -- if the angle is exactly right."

A cyan arc bloomed above the console. "Too shallow," chimed Mira, "and they skim past into deep space forever." "Too steep," crackled Captain Reyes, "and they crash straight into the surface." Максим leaned closer, face lit by the glow. "Then I need the angle in between. The perfect one."
