Every night the streetlamp on Маша's corner buzzed and burned, gulping electricity while everyone slept. "There has to be a better way to light up the dark," she said, tapping her brass loupe against her chin. She had no idea the answer was smaller than a grain of sand — and glowing blue.
"What if light didn't need electricity at all?" Маша wondered aloud, flipping through a book about glowing ocean creatures. A speaker on the desk crackled to life. "Perfect timing," said a warm voice — Dr. Marisol, calling from a research aquarium far away by the sea. "Want to meet something that glows?"
Through the speaker, Dr. Marisol guided Маша along as gloved hands on the screen-feed moved a small sampler arm through a giant tank. It gently drew a wisp of glowing water near the coral. "These tiny living things make their own light," she said. "It's called bioluminescence. Cold light — almost no heat at all!"
